We share the passion and love for Huskies that other similar rescues do. However, we are different in a number of ways:
- We are fundraising to set up our permanent home first. Getting our own property will enable us to set up various means to generate income, which cannot be done on a rented property. Our aim is to become self-sufficient to cover running costs. We believe this will allow us to focus on our mission, and the dogs themselves, rather than having to spend a large portion of our days trying to ‘catch-up’, looking for funds just to keep things running.
- Our rescues will not be housed in kennels. We will rather have several large enclosures for them to move around freely during the day, with a dedicated indoor area for sleeping, feeding and bad weather. We intend to set it up in a way that the dogs have human companions to stay with. A few smaller kennels will be built, for dogs that need to be kept seperate for medical reasons.
- We interact with all the dogs. We live with them. They are our companions and we are part of the pack. This interaction does ‘train’ them for the time when they find their new home, and makes the settling in process easier.
- We give our dogs a purpose. Visitors to the center are encouraged, and interaction with the dogs is always fun. Daily group (pack) walks around the property (aiming for off-lead) will also be implemented. Huskies love running and walking, and this will keep them fit and healthy as well.
- We will actively promote local Husky owners to get involved, and join us in Husky-related activities such as biking and carting. A club is being set up to meet this need, to give our Huskies and those of members, stimulation and excercise specific to Huskies. Emphasis is on fun, and of course quality time with the dogs is priceless.
- Our dogs are also ambassadors, and help to educate people as to their unique needs and abilities. People are often amazed at what these special dogs can do, especially when it’s doing what they instinctively love to do – run and pull.
